POWASSAN AND DISTRICT UNION PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERNET AGREEMENT

Patrons using the Internet computers must sign a copy of this policy to acknowledge that it has been read and understood. Users must check in with the librarian before each session.  Non library members must fill out at the bottom of page two, a complete permanent address with telephone number and government issued identification.. Your signature on this agreement is legally binding and indicates that you have read and understood the terms and agree to abide by them.

The Internet is a worldwide, unregulated source of information and users must assess the accuracy of information for themselves. The Library Board and staff have no control over information on the Internet and cannot be responsible for its content. The Powassan and District Union Public Library does not protect users from information they may find offensive.

The operation of this service requires the proper conduct of all users who must adhere to our strict guidelines. These guidelines are laid out here so you understand your responsibilities. In general you are required to be legal, ethical and efficient in your use of this service. Violation of the rules will result in your access being terminated and future access denied.

The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in cancellation of those privileges.  If a situation arises where inappropriate use is questioned library staff will have complete and final say over what is deemed appropriate. Library staff may deny access to the computers at any time.

2. Users may book sessions in “one hour” increments.  Library staff may ask you to end your session if you have been on the computer longer than one hour.  If you have violated this policy, cause any discomfort for other users, or are causing a disturbance you may be asked to leave immediately.

3. Users may book sessions two days in advance. Booking may be made in person or by telephone. A booking must be used before a second booking may be made. Users who are fifteen minutes late for a booking will lose that booking if someone else requires that computer. Repeated lateness or non-appearance for bookings may result in bookings not being accepted in the future. In the event that the equipment is not booked users may be allowed access on first come first served basis for up to one hour.

Users requiring printouts will be charged at the rate of 30 cents a page, subject to change without notice.  Colour printouts are $2.00 per copy, subject to change without notice.  Users may ask staff for assistance with printing.  If you have not asked for assistance with printing you must pay for all copies that were accidentally printed.

5. Users may use word processing software or desktop publishing software, but may not access any system utilities. 

6. A basic level of knowledge is required of users. If you require training, Library staff can inform you of training sessions available. Library staff may offer you some assistance but do not provide computer training.

7. Users may open a web-based e-mail account, such as Hotmail, and use it from Library computers. Users may not use the Library e-mail account.

8. Use is limited to a maximum of two people per station.

9. Users are liable for any damage to the equipment or software.  Vandalism to hardware, software, Library property or any Internet connection will result in the loss of access and possible police charges.

10. Access is available during Library hours. Users must vacate the computers 15 minutes before closing.

11.  I have read and understand this policy. I agree to abide by the terms of this agreement and adhere to the rules posted at the computers. I understand that charges may be levied orprivileges withdrawn if the rules are not followed.

12. Children & teens under 18 years of age must have a parent/legal guardian sign the internet agreement policy, in person at the library, on their behalf.
